A Picture Can Tell A Thousand Words...

We have learnt about private and personal information, what a digital footprint is and that sharing is okay as long as it is smart.

We are learning that images give away information too. We can alter these images to make them smart and not give away our private information.

Here are some images we altered:

What spaces in our homes are not smart places to take a photo that is being shared in different places?

  • The bathroom
  • The bedroom

LESSON 4 WALT: understand the concept of a digital footprint

In our most recent Cybersmart lesson we learnt about how everything we do online is there forever. An analogy we used was footprints in the sand and how when the wave comes along the footprints get washed away, however digital footprints don't get washed away so it is important to make smart decisions about what we share online.

The tamariki completed a fill in the blank activity based on digital footprints and also created their own digital footprint google drawing by looking at their digital history.

Sssh! That's Private!

We are learning to understand why some information is private and why we as humans like sharing personal information about ourselves.

It is awesome to want to share things with others - actually it’s part of what makes us human (see the slide above).

What information shouldn't be shared online?

  • Full name

  • Address

  • Date of Birth

All of these pieces of information allow people to identify you individually.

We practiced turning private information into personal information:

Cybersmart - Smart Footprint - Personal or Private - What do we think?

We are learning what information is private information and should only be told to people we trust.
  1. We made a copy of the slide below, renamed it, dated it and saved it in our Cybersmart folder

  2. Then we dragged and dropped which personal information we would share online and which private information we would not share online

  3. We then checked to see if we agreed!

Cybersmart - Sorting Information: Cooper vs Ruby

We are learning to understand the difference between private and personal information

Today we learned that we can find information from a range of sources within texts provided.

We read about Cooper and Ruby and worked out what information we can find out about them from their books.

We can find information from text (writing).

We can find information from images (pictures).

We can find information from audio (sound).

Here is the information we found out from reading Cooper and Ruby's books:

Persuasive Writing

As our writing focus for Term 2, 2021 we are looking at persuasive writing. We learning how to choose a topic and brainstorm arguments that will support our topic. As we get better with our persuasive writing we will look at trying to hold debates in our classroom. Each child has brainstormed and drafted their ideas throughout the week and we are working towards publishing one piece of writing to our blog per week.
